Heavy Snow To End April and Most Resorts' Ski Seasons in the Alps

It has been a snowy end to April in the Alps where a few dozen ski areas are staying open into the first week of May.

The heaviest snow has been in Austria and Germany where up to 70cm of snow has been reported above 2000 metres over the past 72 hours.

“Biggest Ski Pass Ever” To Go On Sale in May

A new company says it will put the "biggest ski pass ever" on sale next month, although so far the details are limited.

'Snowpass' says it will reveal all, including which ski areas are included, on Wednesday, 8th May. A map on the company's website: snowpass.com appears to show that it will include ski areas in all four major Alpine ski nations along with Germany, Poland, Spain, Portugal and the UK.

End-of-Season Snow in the Alps (Dolomites & Pyrenees)

Although around 95% of ski areas in the Alps have ended their 2018-19 ski seasons with most of those that were still operating making Easter Sunday or Monday their final day this year, heavy snowfall is being reported on higher slopes in the Alps and in the Pyrenees.

New Chairlifts For Australia

Two new chairlifts are due to start operating on Australian ski slopes in June, when the country's 2019 ski season kicks off.

New quad and six seater chairlifts have been installed at Perisher and Mt Buller resorts whilst Falls creek are upgrading their Gully chair to make it run faster.

Final Day of Scottish Ski Season

Today (Bank Holiday Monday April 22nd 2019) appears to be the final day of the 18/19 Scottish ski season.

Glencoe ski area on the country's west coast has been the only centre operating snowsports for the past week and had previously said that it would close today due to a lack of skiers rather than a lack of snow. It is pictured above this morning.

Berliner Philharmoniker set for opening of New Concert Hall in Andermatt

The rebirth of the Swiss resort of Andermatt into a world-class mountain destination of the 21st century is set to continue this summer with the opening of a new concert hall.

Designed by London-based Studio Seilern Architects and located next to the resort's new Radisson Blu Hotel Reussen which opened this season, the new 700-seat facility will allow Andermatt to join a very select group of ski resorts with this type of important cultural attraction alongside its celebrated sports facilities.

Up to 3 Feet of End-of-Season Snowfall in the Alps

The majority of ski areas are now closed in the Alps although over a hundred will remain open for the coming Easter weekend and many of these on to the final weekend of April, some the first weekend of May and a few dozen beyond then too.

After the heavy snowfall 10 days ago there has been intermittent snowfall mixed with sunny and sometimes foggy days across the alps with the eastern side of the mountains – Austria, Eastern Switzerland and North-eastern Italy, seeing the heaviest snowfalls.

Snowy End To North America’s Ski Season

There have been some heavy snowfalls in the Western US to end the ski 2018-19 ski season.

Infact the season has already ended for about a third of ski areas in states like California, Colorado and Utah and will be over at more than two thirds by the end of Sunday.

Massive Snowfalls in the Dolomites Too

Although the focus of attention in recent days has been on the huge snowfalls in the Alps, with some resorts now reporting as much as 6-7 feet (1.6-2.1 metres) of snowfall in the past 72 hours, the Italian Dolomites have been reporting huge snowfalls too.

Scottish Ski Areas Re-open (Again)

Cairngorm (pictured above yesterday) and the Lecht ski Areas have re-opened terrain after heavy snowfall this week on Scottish mountains. The centres reported up to 50cm of snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday.

The biggest transformation was at Cairngorm, above Aviemore, which has 16 runs open today, having been completely closed up to Thursday.

Swiss Ski Areas Report Up To 1m of Snow in Past 24 Hours

Swiss ski resorts have posted up to 1m (40 inches) of snow in the past 24 hours (at the village of Bellwald) as heavy snowfall hits the Alps.

The snowfall, which is very widespread across Austria, France, Italy and Switzerland started falling in some areas on Tuesday but is expected to be at its heaviest today, and in some areas tomorrow.

EasyJet Flights for Winter 2019/20 To Go On Sale Next Week

easyJet will put on sale flights for between 27 October 2019 and 28 March 2020 next Thursday, 11th April 2019.

Full details of new routes won't be announced until the day, but tickets covering peak dates for Christmas, New Year and February Half Term will be on sale from early in the morning.

Les Arcs Protest Brexit With Giant Message in Snow

French ski resort Les Arcs, one of the most popular with British skiers, have made their feelings known on the subject of Britain leaving the EU this week by spelling out 'Les Arcs says no Brexit' in giant letters in the snow. The work was done by Simon Beck, who is one of the world's most famous 'snow artists'.
