Glaciers Opening with Deep Fresh Snow After Heavy Falls

At least three Alpine glacier ski areas have announced they'll be opening this coming weekend following big snowfalls over the past week.
The Stubai and Solden glaciers will be opening this Friday, 13th September for their 2019-20 ski season, with Val Senales over the border in Italy due to open the following day, Saturday 14th, for theirs.
They'll join the four glacier centres currently open in the Alps - Saas Fee and Zermatt in Switzerland, Passo Stelvio in Italy and Hintertux in Austria.
They have all been reporting superb conditions this week after the skies cleared following more than 50cm of fresh September snowfall on their slopes.
A spokesperson for The Stubai area said they had decided to open, initially two runs, following 55cm of fresh snowfall there.
The Galdhopiggen glacier in Norway has also re-opened after 40cm of snowfall there. It was supposed to be open anyway but had closed in late July as it was too warm.
Austria's Molltal glacier is also closed at present in similar circumstances when it should be open. The latest webcam images show it too having lots of fresh snow, but a re-opening date has not yet been announced.
Other glaciers opening over the next few weekends include the Pitztal the weekend after next and another Austrian glacier, Kaunertal, as well as Tignes in France on the final weekend of September, conditions permitting.
