Last Day of the French 17-18 Ski Season

It's the last day of the 2017-18 ski season in France with Val Thorens, the last ski area in the country still operating its lifts, finishing its nearly six-month long ski season this afternoon.
Currently the resort still reports a 165 – 275cm base, with more than 70 of its 82 trails open
and most of its lifts still operating on closing day. Temperatures are hovering around the freezing point, and there's even a little fresh snow forecast on Thursday.
It has been one of the snowiest seasons on record in France and Val d'Isere has announced it will open a fortnight early for summer skiing in less than 4 weeks' time at the start of June, initially re-opening winter slopes due to the depth of snow for morning skiing and boarding for the first time in its history.
Val Thorens has been the only ski area open in France since Sunday, when Tignes ended its seven month season.
Elsewhere the ski season ended in Scotland yesterday after Glencoe finished its 17-18 run on Bank Holiday Monday. Several ski areas remain open in Austria and Switzerland but in Italy only Cervinia is open at weekends.
