Norwegian Ski Area To Make Helmet Wearing Compulsory

Leading Norwegian ski area Hovden have announced they'll be making the wearing helmets of compulsory for people using their ski slopes for skiing or snowboarding from next season (2018-19).
The resort says the move is for safety reasons rather than due to an insurance requirement. They have not said what punishment will be made to anyone disobeying the ruling.
Although some leading ski resorts have made helmet wearing compulsory for staff working on their slopes, and for people in ski school, it is believed Hovden will be the biggest ski area so far to make helmet wearing compulsory for all.
Some smaller ski areas in small states and provinces such as New Jersey and Nova Scotia requite helmets be worn by all as do some indoor ski centres including the UK's Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead and some countries including France require children to wear helmets up to a certain age.
A recent study for that 85% of people in Norway already wear helmets on ski slopes and the country's ski area operators association say they prefer education programmes rather than regulations to encourage people to wear helmets when skiing or boarding.
