Dry Slope Near London Saved from Housing Developers

One of England's longest-established dry ski centres which had been threatened with closure after housing developers announced plans to redevelop the site where the slopes are located appears to have been saved.
"One year on and we are happy to announce the application for houses has been withdrawn!" a statement from Brentwood Park Ski and Snowboard Centre issued today confirmed.
The decision appears to be the result of a huge campaign against closure mounted by the centre and other businesses also affected, which included an adjacent karting track and a golf academy.
They whipped up support from local and national snowsports media, snowsport governing bodies, British and international ski racers and local councillors and the mayor. A petition against the plans was signed by more than 2,500 people and 160 comments were logged objecting to the proposal on the council's portal.
"…all understood the importance of what Brentwood Park Ski and Snowboard Centre provide - skiing and boarding at grassroot level, available to anybody regardless of their ability," the statement continued.
Brentwood Park Ski and Snowboard Centre was established in 1974 and is one of the closest remaining dry slopes to Central London. It has more than four decades of history providing ski teaching for children and adults alike as well as recreational snowsports year round.
"We are extremely grateful for the support, both verbally and written and would like to say thank you to everybody that helped," the statement concludes.
