Canada’s Ski Season May Start This Weekend (or Maybe Next)

Canada's ski season may start this weekend after heavy snowfall hit Alberta.
So far no ski areas have confirmed they're definitely opening yet but the ski areas around Banff and Jasper in Western Alberta aim to open in early November and Lake Louise, Sunshine and Marmot Basin all say they'll be opening around 9-10th November – the second weekend of the month.
However Nakiska, the closest ski area to Calgary, says it may open for a special preview weekend this coming weekend, it just hasn't confirmed that yet.
Snowfall data is difficult to ascertain before resorts open when they begin publishing stats, but Sunshine reported last night that it has had 40cm of snowfall in the past 24 hours. It's one of the world's few remaining leading resorts to operate without snowmaking.
South of the border US resorts have been opening early because of the snowy conditions with at least nine open last weekend – an unprecedented number for October.
There have been some good snowfalls reported across Western Canada over the past week.
Lake Louise traditionally stages the first World Cup Downhill races of the season for both Men and women in late November and early December.
