Tignes – Val d’Isere Weather Plays Havoc with Race Schedule

Tignes – Val d’Isere Weather Plays Havoc with Race Schedule

Published : 09-Dec-2018 09:31

Strong winds and heavy snow at Tignes and Val d'Isere is causing a headache for World Cup race organisers.

Yesterday the men's races went ahead at Val d'Isere but this morning's slalom race has been cancelled due to conditions the resort described thus,
"Due to very complicated weather conditions today, the slalom is cancelled."

The 'complicated weather' includes strong winds and heavy snowfall with neighbouring Tignes reporting 30cm of snow accumulation in the past 24 hours.

Last week, the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced the Women's World Cup races scheduled for Val d'Isere next week were cancelled due to too little snow on the race course.

The region is expected to have had at least 50cm of snowfall by the end of tomorrow.
