For a long time. Started when I was eight. Had a 5 year break from it when my first Son was born and have only been going again for the last three years. I was ok at the old school technique and have self taught myself carving so hoping to improve.

Has anyone skied in Sierra Nevada?

I have been there five times now just for short stays whilst I was at Uni out there. It is a great resort, but can be a bit unpredictable snow wise although having said that this year they have had a lot (more than a lot of traditional resorts). There is an awesome off piste bowl on the right hand side as you look up the mountain with a great wind lip to drop off.

I can't wait to take my two lads skiing. My five year old is very keen to go but my youngest is still too young at mo. It will be my best day ever when I can ski with them both. :D

After the great tips I received last time on my technique I have put a link to the latest vid from this year. Any tips would be greatfully received.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr_m8L55rbk I was going to have a lesson this year but the weather was so rubbish in La Rosiere for the whole week we were there I couldn't be bothered. Thought it would be better to just have some fun in La Thuile instead. |
Awesome photos. Punta Helbronner looks amazing with that much snow. I skied it last year with a bit of powder but nothing like that.

Got back last monday. Unfortunately we will not be going back to La Rosiere. The wind was absolute hell. It was windy for 5 of the 7 days we were there. All of us on the trip Kitesurf or windsurf and agreed that it would make a wicked windsurf resort if there was a big lake but for skiing it was a nightmare.
We went over to La Thuile everyday and the skiing was awesome. We had fresh tracks most days which was wicked. I think if we went back we would stay in La Thuile and go over to La Ros if the conditions look good. We were probably unlucky with the weather but rumor has it that it is a pretty windy resort. |
Thought I would let you know the outcome.
Just had some spare time before going to the alps last week so popped into Snow and rock to see what they had. it was very busy but only had to wait 20 mins for a fitting. They confirmed that I had very thin feet and only a few types of boot would fit. When they went out back to find some they came back with none. They had nothing in my length that would fit my width. They tried to sell me some 100mm last boots at that point and I told them not to bother. At that point I remembered that Ski bartlett wasn't far away so went there. As soon as I walked in the fitting guy asked if he could help me. I told him what the score was and he measured my feet and then went over to the boot room to find some for me to try on. They must have had 200 pairs of boots on display in all diffrent sizes. Whereas in snow and rock I couldn't try any on in my size and width, ski bartlett had 7 pairs for me try on. It was great to try on so many and feel the difference in fit between them. In the end I went for Salomon CS Pros which fitted great and gave me brilliant control and comfort through the whole holiday. I am one happy man as I found the boots were mega bucks in the resort. :D :D :D :D Thanks for all your help and advice on here. |
