Well I got back up again today, 5th time this year (would have been more but we bought our first house in December and have been very busy). I am having every bit as much fun as I had hoped and remembered, but today was a new high. I took my son skiing for the first time, he is 15. I don't think I can remember a more enjoyable time, he did GREAT. We went with a couple friends from my work, I let Scott do most of the teaching (he is an excellent skier & instructor) within 1 hour he was skiing, having a basic feel and understanding for wedge turns and doing well, he then had a professional 1.5 hr lesson, they didn't cover anything new but it helped him solidify what my friend had taught him. By the end of the day he had been skiing about 4-5 hours and we took him to the top of the mountain and he skied down well, fantastically for his first day. Best of all he had a blast and can't wait to go again.

When politicians here in the US talk about year round school in Europe, they leave out some important facts. Take the UK. It is true that they only get about five weeks summer vacation, but they also get a two or sometimes three week vacation at the end of fall and spring trimesters (Xmas and Easter). And each trimester has a half term break at the midpoint of at least a week. Overall the kids spend very little more time in school than kids do here in the US with their 12 week summer break.

I can't wait to take my two lads skiing. My five year old is very keen to go but my youngest is still too young at mo. It will be my best day ever when I can ski with them both. :D

The first time I took my boys skiing I was amazed at how quickly they learned. They had lessons but they learned more by copying what experienced skiers were doing. By the end of the week they looked like they had been skiing for years! It astounds me how quickly kids progress. It was great to ski with my boys but now days they go on holidays with their mates and not us  having said that my youngest and his g/f are coming to France with us in a few weeks... God I feel old.

I will be teaching my daughter next year, she will be 13. I wish I could have gotten them started earlier but we only now can afford it. When we all can ski together it will be great. It's all my son can talk about today, he want's to take the next month off and just ski.

Daughter (age 12) just back from HT in Zell am See - she got snowlife award level 6. (scuse me, proud parent  )
Said snow was amazing and had whale of a time.
Great for anyone heading out now the holidays are over.
