Hi,
Engelberg is tough, go for Flumserberg there is a ski shuttle train from Zürich to Unterterzen on week-ends. If you are going just for 1 or 2 days check out the Snow'n'rail option by Swiss Railway SBB. Pizol is also good for a day. Toggenburg is a bit far out, not been to Braunwald. Check this link http://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/day-trips/snownrail.html?_charset_=UTF-8®ion=ostschweiz&keyword= Happy skiing. |

Hi,
Have a look at the nearby Stubai Valley ( Stubaital ) above Innsbruck , stay at either Neustift or Fulpmes and ski at Schlick 2000. http://www.stubaital.com/en/startseite.html To get there bus from the airport to Innsbruck and from here another bus to Stubaital. Check here http://www.vvt.at/page.cfm?vpath=index&switchLocale=en_US |

As an American, how do I find a job at a Swiss ski resort?

Hi,
Your chance to get a work permit is zero, those jobs go to the farm workers who would otherwise be unemployed during winter time ! |

1. Flumserberg , a medium sized resort above Lake Walen (Walensee) 1 hr by train from Zurich to Unterterzen , the aerial gondola to the resort is 50 yards across the road from the train stop.
2. Another 20 minutes on the same train line is the Pizol above Bad Ragaz - Wangs. Small resort but great skiing also for experienced. 3. East of Zurich above Wil near St Gallen is the Toggenburg 1,5 hr train to Nesslau and from here a short bus ride to Alt St Johan - Unterwasser - Wildhaus resorts. Fair sized resort. This is picture book rural Switzerland. 4. Klewenalp small resort, above Lake Lucerne 1,5 train to Stans (near Lucerne) then a short bus ride to either Beckenried or Emmetten. Breathtaking views from here over the lake. All 4 destinations are very child friendly and offer easy skiing for inexperienced kids. I have been in all of them quite frequently so don't hesitate to ask. |

Neustift is a good base for the Stubaital, skiing at the glacier is easy and widespread, if the weather turns bad you've got lovely Innsbruck nearby. Schlick 2000 at the beginning of the valley is nice and within the Innsbruck area the choice is vast.

If you haben't skied for a while I suggest you start off with Sonnenkopf near Klösterle , easy slopes and not so crowded , I did that last season right after the big snowfall mid-January.
Here are 2 maps for your orientation: http://db.intermaps.com/im/skimaps/sonnenkopf/index.swf http://ski.intermaps.com/skiarlberg/skimap.asp |

1 2 3 4 5 6 really ? quote ADVICE ON AUSTRIA Ian Wickham at 02/10/2012 08:26:37 Completed one ski trip to Austria which was enjoyable mainly due to the company, down side average food, Miserable looking restaurant staff, over crowded pistes, unreliable piste markings. Maybe it is unfair critisising Austria after only one visit but what I would say if you are looking for customer service St Anton is not your type of place. Unquote |

Hi,
I spent one week in mid-January this year right after the big snow fall and it was magic ! Went by car and took base in Bludenz a small town at the Arlberg - Montafon crossroad. Schruns is the main village in the valley , quite pleasant and this is where you want to stay, plenty of bars, restaurants, shops you name it, the train line ends right in the centre and buses depart from here to the other destinations in the valley. Skiing was great when I was there it will keep you certainly busy for a week, there is no off-piste here. http://www.silvretta-montafon.at/skigebiet/Pistenplan/ If you want off-piste you need to go to St Anton am Arlberg ( don't confuse with St Anton im Montafon !) To get there take the train with a change at Bludenz. To get to Lech you need to get off at Langen (that's the station before the Arlberg-tunnel) and connect to the bus. Ischgl is a long way , again train over the Arlberg down to Landeck and then bus. Check the schedules on the austrian rail site http://www.oebb.at/en/index.jsp For travel within the Vorarlberg area you can use the travel pass of the Vorarlberg transport system V VV http://www.vmobil.at/fileadmin/downloads/vvv/service/2012_VVV_Tarifzonenplan_120308.pdf http://www.vmobil.at/fileadmin/downloads/_news_/VVV/preise12_01.pdf Happy skiing. |
