I don't know where to start.....

Hi,

For skiing at that time of the year you need to go to an high elevation resort. Zermatt, Saas-Fee, just to name the most famous in Switzerland, somewhere with a glacier. Tignes in France is high, but don't expect ski-in and out. There won't be no hotels or chalets high up there. That said I have been skiing at Andermatt in central Switzerland this year during the first week of April and the snow was good but only in the morning and then it gets slushy during the afternoon.

The good thing is this is the end of the season and you can leave your options open until the very last minute and see how the weather develops. Weather is unpredictable in the mountains. All of the resorts have slopes for beginners and skiing on the glacier where the terrain is pretty flat is easy.

From Munich you can get easy to Innsbruck and the Stubai valley with its glacier. Obergurgl-Hochgurgl in the Ă–tztal valley is another option, easy skiing here.

Thanks for sharing these news. Much appreciated.
Ian- we have been going there regularly ever since the children are born over 27 years ago. In the beginning transport to the slopes to Geils/ Hahnemoos was by bus. To Schentenalp was by 2 seater chairlift with a hard wood bottom and just a cover for the knees.
Last visit was at the beginning of January this year and no these improvements were not done now but gradually over the years.
March indeed is slow but a good time to go is in the height of the season, end Dec, Jan. and Feb. second week of Jan. the World Cup comes to Adelboden with 2 slaloms.
I just looked again on the web-site and it is snowing there now, if the snow stays I will do my ski opening early Dec. there.

Happy skiing to you all.
Ian-It seems to me its been many years you were last in Adelboden and you need a refresher, the resort has dramatically improved the transportation infrastructure on the slopes, here is a link to the resort web-site (the winter Pages are not running yet)

Which ski resort??

I would like to suggest Adelboden in the Bernese Oberland, picture book scenery and excellent skiing under good snow conditions. Not ski in-out but the gondolas leave right from the village center. The runs are gentle and well groomed. It does not have the international flair of the other resorts like Zermatt, Verbier, Saas Fee etc. The clientele is predominantly Swiss, German, Dutch. Here is a link for the area:

Ski Helmets?

I did buy a helmet after I crashed with my head within inches of sharp rocks and had I hit them I would probably not be posting here. But once I wore it and found it very uncomfortable obstructing my hearing and heating up. So what I do is slow down in narrow passages and stay more vigilant.
