Hi folks

Having finally decided to get myself back into skiing I have booked up for New Year at St Anton. Staying at the new Anthonys hotel, does anyone have any experience of it? Having never been to St Anton before, does anyone have any recommendations of must do's?

Or if anyone is going over this period give me a shout, more the merrier.

Just need to get myself into the Xscape indoor ski slope to make sure I remember how to ride those planks. It has been over 10 years since I last skied!!!!

Can't help with your questions but hope you have a great time and welcome to the forum.
IMHO - skiing is a bit like riding a bike, once mastered it remains just as easy to fall off and crash as it ever was.

Good luck with St Anton I really quite liked the place but the only thing that would stop me and mine returning is the really busy busy pistes

Must do's?

Get up early and ride the first lifts up before it gets packed and ski'd out.

Have a drink or two in the KKM or Mooserwirt on the run into town.

Ski over at Stuben early in the morning if possible.

Ski a day at Zurs.

Take the itinerary route off the top of Schindler Grat.

Ski itinerary route 18 down to Alpe Rauz.

Have a full day up at Rendl.

Its a great ski area, you need to be up on it early, and ski off it as late as possible to avoid big crowds. Zurs is much quieter.

If you haben't skied for a while I suggest you start off with Sonnenkopf near Klösterle , easy slopes and not so crowded , I did that last season right after the big snowfall mid-January.

Here are 2 maps for your orientation:

Pain in backside bus ride over there though. You're better off heading directly up the gondola to the rendl area.

Rendal is worth a couple of days, not too crowded and lots of wide blue runs. The main run back down is quite a steep red though but you will be OK after a couple of hours - as someone already said - like riding a bike. Make sure you are back across the other side in time for the last lift up so you can hit the KK on the way back. I found the Mooserwirt was more popular than KK last time I went in March 2012 (the time before - 2011 - it was the reverse but KK have done away with their basement disco area now so not quite as mental as it used to be).

If you go up the Galzig lift then the Valluga 1 cable car, you can ski over the other side to Stuben. A very good run and some great runs up there as well. There is plenty to explore without getting a bus to Zurs and Lech but if you have the time and want a change of scene then give Lech and Zurs a go. Nice towns, a bit more up market over that way.

Overall I loved St Anton and have been there twice. The only reason I am not returning this winter is so I can try somewhere different. I'm giving Ischgl ago because apparently its the only place that gets near to the quality of Apre? ski of St Anton! You will have a great time. Enjoy.

Rendl is definitely worth a day or two.
Lech and Zurs is worth a day.
Apres musts - KK, Mooserwirt and Gunnar at the Kandahar.
