Hi all,

I booked flights to Innsbruck back in November, so need to decided where to Ski (flying out Jan 20th)

I have been considering Alpbach/Niederau as my GF is a complete novice, but am struggling to find reasonable transfers from the airport. About £180 return for a private taxi?

I'm hoping an expert here knows a cheaper way of getting to Alpbach, maybe a hire car is a better option? (I am taking own skis).

Alternatively I could go to a bigger resort which may have shuttles from the airport?

Any advice welcome!

Many Thanks from a Newbie! :-)

Hi, welcome to the forum :)

Mayrhofen has good links by train from Innsbruck, it's a larger town with a good variety of skiing. I assume you are an established skier?

The nice thing about Mayrhofen is that a) it's only about an hour from Innsbruck, and b) beginners start at the top of the mountain where the nursery slopes are so get the benefit of actually being in the mountains rather than in the valley.

Neiderau is also a great resort for beginners, although I can't comment on the transfers other than contacting a TO and asking if you can pay to go on one of their transfers.

Good luck with the search.

Hi,

Have a look at the nearby Stubai Valley ( Stubaital ) above Innsbruck , stay at either Neustift or Fulpmes and ski at Schlick 2000. http://www.stubaital.com/en/startseite.html

To get there bus from the airport to Innsbruck and from here another bus to Stubaital. Check here http://www.vvt.at/page.cfm?vpath=index&switchLocale=en_US

There's a direct shuttle from Innsbruck airport to Solden and Obergurgl. I used it last year - very efficient service, particularly on the return trip when effectively I had a private transfer!

On the way back to Innsbruck Airport last season I saw a minibus go past with Holiday Transfers written on the side - they have a website and do shuttle services to resorts in Austria and over into Italy. Type in Innsbruck Airport shuttle and see what comes up too. Niederau good fun for a beginniner/Intermediate and nice village - Alpbach was good too last year - hope you find something that suits. Other alternative is to look at trains - OBB is the Austrian train website - wonderful journey!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!
