Because they've got a ps3 and we allow them to play it for a few hours a week does that make us bad parents?

No it makes you good parents, all the sports, family orientated and most children have a games console. Its the poor kids who only have their games console who sit and play on their own for many hours a day, with no family activities or fun and sports. My life was all about my lad and did every-thing I could to spend time with him on family expeditions and sports.

No it dosent make you a bad parent caron,Being a parent is the hardest job in the world imo.You like most parents want to give your kids the experiences that you probably never had, I know i do.

But as Rose said things need to be make more accessable for everyone not just those on benefits. This country needs to get off its ass and put more resourses into sport for everyone to enjoy.

Every year in the States, there is a list produced of the healhiest cities to live in. Those cities invariable are those where public money has been spent to encourage activities and sports. Not football pitches or running tracks, but bike trails, mountain bike courses, water access for boating, puplic beaches etc.

Now, 3m pounds may seem a lot for a single activity used by a relatively small number of people, but the knock on effect of creating an active atmosphere may yeild wider benifits. The project will be a waste of money only if the council don't capitilise on the interest the project generates.

It's ironic that out of all the things we do one of the most enjoyable is cycling. How many bikes could you buy for the cost of a ps3???

But then there's the people who don't use bike tracks anyway...

I went all the way to Hawaii to learn to surf, but the waves were too big. Okay, I went to have a good holiday as well )

The locals were all overjoyed at 6-9' feet of surf, but I got squashed flat the first time in the water (no board) and cut my heel open quite badly on the coral (tut)
And don't get me started on the rip tides, and the Tiger sharks hanging around in the river outflows
Bournemouth sounds good!

Lived in Australia for 15 months. Most nights, on Manly beach, on an ancient, borrowed glass fire board, I tried to grasp surfing. This board was very old, and had jaggy bits of glass fibre, so that every night, I would get back to the apartment, covered in scratches.

Then came the night. I got to stand, fully balanced, on a fast moving wave. Absolutely, the same exhilaration as skiing, well nearly. Of course, I didn't know how to turn, but was going like a bullet, in a straight line, half way up a curl.

From the corner of my eye, I catch a glimpse of a young lad, on a gleaming glossy board, on the same wave, heading in my direction. He shouts ~~ "Hey" I don't change a thing. The boards crash, I kept going. My borrowed tank-like board had taken a big chunk out of the front of his smart new glossy.

And did I care? Course I did.
