When you are carving that low, it gets dangerous to swing poles in front. It says somewhere that the guy is wearing 150 flex boots; I can believe it.
What I really like is that he clearly demonstrates femur rotation used for pivoting in the bumps, and similar femur rotation to create edge angle while carving. It's a great video. |
There are significant differences in performance between skis. Generally piste skis work better if they they are constructed with wood cores, carbon, rubber, side walls, and "full" sheets of Titanal.
The construction must blend with the shape and camber profile. Beyond the extra cost of the materials, this means more design/engineering, and manufacturing cost. As conditions on the slope become more difficult, the differences in quality become more apparent. |
I inline skate. That doesn't mean miles on the road, just a small car park/quiet street with a slight slope. I found this video, which gives you an idea of how effective skating can be for cross training. Pumping turns uphill is about the best ski fitness workout I can think of.

I know that I was surprised to discover that one of my feet pronates more than the other. I ended up with different posting on that foot bed to compensate. Prior to this I had always had more difficulty skiing on one ski that side.

If people do go for superfeet footbeds, don't assume you just get them in your size. Some times you may need to go up a size or two to get the best fitting arch support. You then cut them down to fit your ski boots.

It's often cheaper to find some thermic heated inner soles on ebay. You can then cut out the heating element (with cord connector), and use it to replace the one in the ski boot footbed.

Nearly anything you apply on the piste is going to wear off very quickly. An easy method that usually last a day or more is to cold wax the skis in the evening. Use a bar of universal, or a warm temp wax like a crayon all over the bases. Then use a green scouring pad to rub in, and remove the excess. You could then brush as well if desired. |
Skis from the same company can come from different factories, and have very different factory wax protocols. The Ptex and the structure grind can also be very different from model to model. Some structures might be subject to "base burn" sooner as well.
Best to hot box them, or find a store with the new infra red waxing machines. |
