The head of the Communicable Diseases Division at the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health as just announced that he expects that the rest of Switzerland will soon follow Canton Ticino's example and declare a state of emergency if this takes place it is likely that all of Switzerland's ski areas will close.

Obviously most events across the Alps are now cancelled. The Altitude Comedy Festival in Mayrhofen had been hoping, until this morning, that it would get under the wire, but has just announced it won't be happening either. https://www.altitudefestival.com/ It has already announced it will happen again from March 29th - April 2nd, 2021

Two of Norway's leading resorts have just announced they're closing - Hemsedal and Trysil. The reason given is that the local municipalities won't be able to cope if the virus infects large numbers of tourists. Given this line of thought it would appear likely that most Norwegian ski areas that attract large visitor numbers will also close.

We are in the same situation. Due to fly into Innsbruck and then to St Anton on Sunday. Certainly, until the foreign office declares Austria a no-go area, we can't get our money back if we cancel so our intention was to go...but now I've heard a rumour that the whole St Anton region may close down very soon altogether. My two nephews are ski instructors in St Anton and said their manager told them he expected full closure to be announced in the next 48 hrs and has in fact already told them to get packing to come home. The last thing we want is to make it all the way there only for it then to be closed. But who knows? It's changing rapidly and the latest statement from the region says they are open as usual so we will have to decide on a day by day, hour by hour basis. Selfishly I really want to go. Sensibly I'm not sure we should. We'll see. Best wishes whatever you decide.

Hi folks,
There's a group of us that are due to travel to St. Anton from March 22 - 28.
We Would sincerely appreciate any updates you get from there re: Covid-19. We were due to travel to Italy but since the lockdown there, our holiday agency found us a last minute option at St. Anton.
Thank again!
