Following on from what insiders said, I would think that brown slopes in Val Thorens in January are very very rare. It's a large resort and if a few slopes are 'wind swept' there will be plenty more good ones to enjoy.

I love being 3000m + on a sunny day in Jan or Feb. Can't beat the views!!
slippy slidey snow......me likey!

November 2011 - we were all shaking in our boots at this 'snow sure' resort :o

I've been to Val Thorens and the problem we had was that one day it was so windy they shut all the lifts, so there was no ski-ing that day :(
And I tried to get my ski pass money back for that day, but stupidly left claiming this until I got back to the U.K. and whilst it seems I was entitled to get it back for that day, somehow it never happened :(

As people have said - VT is pretty snow sure. Ive been twice and am going again this Jan

As Adders "gently" hinted the OP may want to elaborate slightly?

Will it be cold? Maybe - Ive skiied in sallos and T-shirt only in January in VT but have frozzed me bits off too (but then Ive done that in Kitz too at much lower altitude)

Never really fancied Val Thorens ..... I guess it is because it looks a tad like Avoriaz

NOTHING can look as bad as Avoriaz...VT is not too bad ..not your picturesque resort by any means but it doesn't jar too much...and the skiing is excellent

On a 1-10 scale of ugliness where 1 is idilic and 10 is pig ugly, Val Thorens is about a 4. Avoriaz is a 12!

I have to say I wouldnt be rushing back to VT. My view is probably tainted by thew fact it was my first week on skis but I thought the place was bleak, miserable and quiet and that was Xmas week. It does however have a remarkable record for snow.
