When are you going Rocksy? My OH & I are off there on Feb 2nd - first visit there.

We're off to Mayrhofen on the 12th of January. Our last trip was to Chatel in the Portes du Soleil and we were tempted to stick with another French 'super' area but I think we're getting much better value in Austria, certainly in terms of accommodation..

There's a few reasons why Austria does seem better than France as has been identified on this thread.
Yes, food and drink is generally much cheaper, although its gone up quite a bit in the last 2 years.
Accommodation is definitely far superior like for like.
The down side can be lower lying resorts and snow coverage, but mayrhofen is high once you're up there so you don't need to worry.

Hi Tim. We''re in the Strass Sport Hotel - or rather their Villa next to the Penken. Aim to be doing a lot of après in the Ice bar & Sport Hotel - have heard there's a good singer there. Any other recommendations?

He's ok, been going there for years,
The ice bar gets lively, packed and very hot, and rowdy too!!!
There's a lot of other good places for decent après as well.
Your hotel is a good one. Great position next to the gondola but get out there for 8.15 or you'll hit the queues,

Sorry Tony re queues would the same go for us in mid January? We're in Manni's Sporthotel which will hopefully be plusher than the 'luxury' chalet we had in France earlier this year. Thanks again for the advice...
