strass bar is good . brian christopher well worth seeing. other good bars? scotland yard , mo`s . im there with 4 mates , but 1 has come in to a bit of money , so has treated himself to a room in the strass(thank god as he snores for britain). the rest of us are in a B+B down the road.

Yes it's always busy getting up and coming down at peak times.
Get up first lift at 8.15 and try skiing off other areas and taking the bus back to avoid the panic

I beleive you can store your skis up by the Penken Gondola? Is this worth considering? Like I said we're staying ib Mannis Sporthotel.

been to mayrhofen in jan for the last 2 years . the queues look worse than they are . they put in a spiral walkway in a few years back that improved thing. once you`re in the queue you move though pretty quick. first day will be the worst , so we will be on the ahorn until lunch then head up the penken. as has been said , the middle part of the gondala trip is pretty high and you pass the old middle station where you hit a stantion and there is a slight change in dirrection. love watching peoples faces when the gondala hits it .

rocksy, you can leave your skis in the lockers at the bottom of the penken. but if you plan to take the train down the valley of head up to the hintertaux you will have to go and get them first . ok if you`re using the penken lift everyday , but otherwise i would`nt bother.

Thanks Tim, think we'll try and get up early the first morning. We're bringing our own ski's etc so that should hopefully save some time first thing. I could see us spending the first few days at least up at the Penken and then see what happens :-)

First morning is great to spend a few hours up Ahorn, get your ski legs and fly down the Ebbenwald red, and right off into the village if the Abfahrt is open, great run.

Trust me, moving or not, you do NOT want to get on that walkway onto the Penkenbahn in a queue any day of the week. Yes you get there eventually, but who wants a min 20 minute queue when getting there at 8.15 ensures you go straight up the mountain and make the first tracks on the cord?

Ski storage? I did it once and its quite useful, but problem is getting them back out early morning in time to get up the gondola at 8.15 as I dont think they open the shop until 8.30???

Mannis is literally a 5 min walk up the road or 1 stop on the bus if youre really lazy.

Remember, get over to Horberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm before the masses move over there.
