There is another route which bypasses Reims as well this is slightly quicker as there are a number of tolls through Reims, avoid Paris at all costs

I've driven through France loads of times, and at all costs avoid Paris.
Getting to the alps, go Reims and Troyes on to Dijon. I'd avoid the main autoroute to Lyon and go on the 2nd one that runs parallel to it as its quieter and you can cut off a lot of the busy Lyon stretch.

Thanks you everyone for going out of your way with such great answers.
I had forgot about screen wash so thanks very much.
We have skied through Belle Plagne many times and always thought we would like to stop so really looking forward to it especially now there is snow.
Driving will be an experience. We have done it once before but we were in convoy then and just followed like sheep. Happy Christmas and Happy skiing to any skiers.

I've just driven (see my thread in Chatter) the route TomTom gave me was originally via Paris but I ignored that;

Calais to - Reims - Troyes - Dijon - Macon - Lyon - Geneve - Sallanches - Megeve

It was fairly easy. :)

lisaloo wrote:Thank you to you both for replying. As its my job to sort the route out I was very surprised when the RAC sent me via Paris. Maybe I had input something wrongly although I did it twice to check.
Reims definitely looks better. Thanks Jonathan for such a thorough answer. I think we have it all covered except the jackets now. I read on a site its one for everyone in the car. We have one for my partner but looking for something very cheap for me and our two teenage boys.
Although we enjoy flying we have opted for an apartment this year in Belle Plagne so needed the car to take a few necessities food wise to try and keep the restaurant bill down a little. Can't wait now as we are going New Year and there's lots of snow already. Have a great Christmas guys and happy skiing.

Hi again,

For cheap Hi Viz vests you could try the following....

Many DIY stores stock them , and I think Wilkinsons etc stock Hi Viz vests , your local Halfords should be also of help.

All the best
