I'd second the route via Luxembourg and Nancy - it comes up on Google if you go to options next to get directions and tick avoid tolls. It about 3 gallons of fuel extra but has no tolls. I always use this route to Switzerland and that part of France. Depends if everyone wants to chip in with the cost of the tolls.
Also, I can tell you where to fill up with cheap fuel in Belgium and Luxembourg. Ask if you want to know - let me know whether diesel or petrol.

Fuel is cheapest in Luxembourg prices are regulated and the same at all gas station here , cigarettes and alcohol too. I live here.

However I would not recommend to take the toll-free roads it takes forever on the Routes Nationales.
Reims and Highway is the way to go.

You have to go near, or to, Annecy to get to both of them and last I heard they were both in the Alps in a similar area
