I'm taking my nephew to Folgarida on 5th Feb and am stunned by the cost of airport transfers from Bergamo airport (and back). Hiring a car and paying for parking all week would be a quarter of the cost!
Does anyone know of any lower cost solutions - other than the train which takes all day.

Check out the j2ski holiday thread. AllyG. There is a group of 20 or so j2skiers going on the same day. I know ally would have info on this for you. She is very thorough to say the least. ;)

I think the problem is that the 5th February is a Wednesday. The public bus (FlySkishuttle.com) from Bergamo to Folgarida is very cheap, about 35 euros return, but as far as I know it only runs on Saturdays and Sundays. 2 of the people in our group will be taking this bus - out on Sunday 2nd Feb and back on Sunday 9th.
We will also be hiring a 12 seater mini-bus between Verona and the hotel in Folgarida, which is working out at 64 euros return per head. But this is also going out on Sunday 2nd and back on Sunday 9th Feb.

I think hiring a car at the airport would probably be the best option.
Doing the journey by train from Bergamo to Folgarida is certainly NOT straightforward. I think you'd have to get a bus from the airport to Bergamo train station, then get a train to Brescia, another train to Verona, another one to Trento, a local one to somewhere like Marilleva, and then a taxi or a local bus to Folgarida.
I'm doing it from Verona airport, but that's comparatively straightforward. It involves airport bus to Verona train station, train to Trento (where I'm staying overnight), and then the Dolomiti Express straight to Daolasa first thing in the morning where they have a gondola right by the train station to get people up the slopes. I'm leaving my luggage at the ski hire shop and I'm ski-ing to Folgarida and the ski hire shop are going to take my luggage to the hotel for me.
