Three Austrian Ski Areas Planning To Start 26-27 Ski Seasons Next Month

Several Austrian glacier ski areas have now outlined their intended autumn opening dates, even as current conditions mean only two summer‑ski options remain operating nationwide.
Sölden has begun selling early‑season lift tickets for Friday 25 September with a (very) early season adult day pass is currently priced at €61.50. The Kaunertaler Gletscher plans to start its 2026–27 season a day later on Saturday 26 September, as is the Pitztal Glacier, home to Austria's highest lift‑served terrain.
No Austrian glacier is open at present. Hintertux, which recently ended its 2025–26 season, announced earlier this year, long before the current heatwave, that it would shift from year‑round operation to a long September–July schedule so is currently closed to skiers and boarders. It is selling day passes at €82 from 3 October, though an earlier start has not been ruled out.
Stubai, near Innsbruck, expects its autumn season to begin in early to mid‑October, tentatively around 2–3 October, subject to snowfall and weather. The Kitzsteinhorn above Kaprun is understood to be planning an autumn opening on 10 October, with Mölltal likely to target a similar date based on previous years.
