Just watched Kwame complete his 1st run of the slalom successfully :D Unlike Bode Miller and Ted Ligerty of the US team who were among more than half the starters failing to complete the 1st run.

47th in an Olympic Slalom is pretty good going, for a guy who's only been skiing 6 years.

okay so he would have been last if it wasn't for Tola side-stepping back up the slope after missing a gate so that he could complete the course, all in the "Olympic Spirit" don't you know?

BTW only 48 finished

Which speaks volumes about the race strategy adopted by Miller and Ligerty who failed to complete the 1st run.

considering Bode straddled something like the fourth or fifth gate I'm not quite sure what his strategy was.......

and to be fair I think the weather conditions may have counted for some of those DNF

Miller & ligerty's race strategy was to go flat out 100% and try to win Gold. Nothing else would do. Like all the top racers that is how they train so that is how they race.
Kwame was just trying not to come last. As someone said the only reason he didn't was because the Albanian hiked for around 30 seconds which put him last.
My 15-year-old daughter watched him and turned to me and said - "I could have skied that faster than him!" And she would have done too!
