Covid test requirements to enter Italy

I am going to Italy in two weeks time and the Covid test requirements to enter Italy are confusing.

The UK government site states.

You must show evidence of a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours before entering Italy OR a negative antigen test taken within 24 hours before entering Italy.

However, the EU passenger locator form states.

In the case of arrivals from the UK and Northern Ireland the molecular swap test (PCR) must be taken in the 48 hours prior to entering Italy.

Could somebody who has been to Italy in the last week please confirm which test is required.

I am currently in Italy, came out Saturday. We just needed a lateral flow test to be done 24 hours before arriving in Italy. Alternatively you can have a PCR test 48 hours before landing in Italy. Don't forget the one hour time difference.

Irish Department of Foreign Affairs is currently indicating that everyone over the age of 6 needs all of the following to enter Italy:

1. Passenger Locator Form: EU Digital Passenger Locator Form.
2. Covid-19 'green pass' or EU Digital Covid Certificate based on vaccination or recovery.
3. A negative antigen test (taken within 24 hours prior to arrival) or PCR test (taken within 48 hours prior to arrival).

FFP2 masks required on flights in/out and on public transport in Italy (and I think on gondolas and some lifts).

Finding it all quite confusing. I looked at Austria one line tells you if you have recovered from covid no pcr needed. Next page says uou still need pcr its as clear as mud.

Any idea of what happens if you drive there

The ordinance issued by the Italian government on 14 December expires on 31 January, they may introduce new measures then. It might also take a while for the UK and IRL government sites to be updated as I think the information is sent via the respective embassies.

The Valle d'Aosta region has become the first Italian region to be classified as an orange zone, this means skier numbers will be restricted. The maximum numbers are 11,223 skiers in Cervinia, 6401 in Pila, 8399 in La Thuile, 6942 in Courmayeur, 408 in Valgrisenche and 199 in Ollomont. If the Covid situation worsens and the Valle d'Aosta is classified as a red zone the ski lifts will have to close.

Just filled my Locator form - for UK a negative lateral flow within preceeding 24 hours of arrival time or a negative PCR within 48 hours. For some countries the PCR can be up to 3 days before arrival but not the UK.

This presumes you are fully jabbed. Gets more complicatd if you are travelling with children who are not vaccinated but of an age where they are vaccinating in Italy.
