Hi,

Anybody have any handy hints or recommendations for Val Cenis? Going soon and staying in Termignon.

Ta.

Not a huge ski area and resort, good if you are looking for peace and quiet.

On piste skiing is more suited to beginners/intermediates and but there is plenty of off piste skiing to be had. It is pretty snowsure at 2800m. Snow is good from December to April because of north facing slopes. I went at Easter time and the snow was good.

To be honest I wouldn't go back there, apres ski was almost non existent (or perhaps we didn't look hard enough) but we made the most of it and had a good time anyway.

I know nothing about Termignon, we stayed in Lanslebourg or Lanslevillard I can't remember.

Hi

Have been to Val Cenis about 5 times and thankfully this year not going back.
Every time we have been we have had an amazing time but it's quite a small ski area so have got bored very quickly. It was great for the kids as there was a brilliant green slope (very long and boring for the grown ups)
i too stayed in either Lanslebourg or Lanslevillard but can't remember which and not much goes on really.

We stayed in Termignon xmas 2010 and it was good. It's an authentic village with decent skiing and is linked to the Lanslebourg and Lanslevillard ski area to give about 125 kms of piste. A reasonable intermediate will ski it all in a couple of days but there is also quite alot of off piste that should keep you happy for a week. There is a supermarket close to Termignon.
It was very cold when we were there -20 to -25 on the upper slopes and it does get windy too. There are hardly any que's and the pistes are refreshingly uncrowded. Wrap up and go for it.
I would go again

If you have your own transport you should consider getting a ski pass which covers other ski stations in the Maurienne including Aussois, La Norma, and one we can particularly recommend - Valfréjus, which you could explore in a day and has some great intermediate runs and plenty of safe off-piste.

Thanks. We do have our own transport. Is driving between ski stations not too tortuous?

Not too bad! Valfréjus is the furthest at 33km from Val Cenis and there's a really easy climb from Modane (direction Frejus Tunnel). About a 45min journey in good conditions.
