Not sure what got into me posting this in July, best I re-bump the topic in Novemeber/December I would suggest!! :-)
Cannot speak about New Years Eve but we have been to Soll the last 3 years in January and found the Salvenstadl Bar is a great venue for Apres. Lively with great live music and centrally located.

Normal group of mature skiers going for a week in January 2013. Group ranges from Very good intermediates to advanced standard British level skiers. Done Schladming and Soll for the past 8 years so were looking for a change. After good skiing but our adrenalin black runs days are behind us, and lively apres.
Staying at the Hotel Sports Berger. Any tips on runs, decent bars and good value ski hire shops well appreciated.

Red Horse is a big bar which has live music, never been there for Apres but have over the last couple of years been there in the evening. Big place, nicely done out but was never that busy in the evening and lacked abit of atmosphere. That being said we were a bunch of aged 45+ so it may have been more suitable to the younger Apres skiing community!!

Why not pre book your ski equipment on line before you get there. That will save alot of time on paperwork and its usually alot cheaper. I appreciate you have to fitted with boots if you do not have your own.
Packing on Friday knowing that your yearly trip is all but over!! :-(

Hope you had a good trip Scarletgirl. We were very impressed by rooms at the Postwirt having had a makeover this year. They have had a staff change over though. We never used the hotel bar but the regular barman who was there who I think was Jimmy has been replced by a lad who looked all of 14!!
I have travelled by train from Salzburg to Schladming a couple of times but it was over 5 years ago. It was cheap as chips and very puntual and comfortable. Sure there are 2 trains an hour but on one you have to change once about half way. It was just over an hour trip if I rember correctly. If you are flying into Salzburg then there is a tram from the airport which goes to the station again relatively cheap and about 15 minute ride. Its a very scenic trip which passes under a cliff top castle which was in a Bond Movie.
