Austria pistes crowded?? That must be why in my last 11 ski trips 10 of them have been to Austria at Schadming, Soll and Mayrhofen. Work it out for yourself. As for the food being poor I must be very very easily pleased.

Agree with Scarletgirl Soll was great we stayed in middle of town. Yes we used to bus it up to the lift which was only 5 minutes, some used to walk. But most of us used to have a stretch off and walk down the hill for our Apres after skiing. We were a mature group of 10+ 42-55 yrs. Went 3 years on the trot so it must have had something going for it. We are trying Saalbach this winter, have you been there Scarletgirl?

From my research so far, ski hire is well expensive in Saalbach, over double what we have paid in recent years in Soll.
Im sure we'll sort a deal somewhere. |

You seem to have your finger on the pulse mate. We are a mature group that have for the last 8 years skied Schladming and Soll. In Soll in recent years the ski hire equipment was so good and so reasonable that many did not even bother to take their own skis. I appreciate Saalbach is a more expensive resort but on viewing prices on the net they are double what we were paying last year. We ares staying at Berger Sports Hotel end of January. Any suggestions where we might try which is local to hotel, quality but hopefully not going to fleece us. There will be at least 7 min hiring skis so they will earn a quid or 2!! |

Done both airports to Soll last couple of years at end of January. Fantastic snow and a great resort. They will love it.

Don't agree about needing a car, queues to get on th ski car (gondolla) perhaps. Loads of good skiing and great bars. Good resort on the whole especailly for what your after. Good luck.

Thanks for that. I know alot of British skiers who think they are advanced but are just very good in comparison to others that ski one or two weeks a year. Very few do I know or have I seen that ski hard black runs properly. They tend to survive them. I have been skiing for years and there is little I will not take on but I know my place! Very good intermediate sets the tone. But I love it. :-)
