By all accounts it's snowing everywhere in Austria but a friend has just had a powder alert for Saalabch which is sent I think when they expect more than 20cm in a 48 hr period. Keep the faith.

For those of you worrying about the snow it has not stopped since yesterday morning in Soll. Even the town is covered. This is good news especially for those who arrived for the New Year.
Frog on the Tyne are now in town and opening gig is New Years Eve at the Salvenstadl, they have bought the snow with them. |

Been to Saalbach the last two mid January's, and it was great. Hold your nerve, the whole of Europe is so mild at the moment but its due to change.

Was in Soll the first week in January last year, yes there was greenery around but all the pistes were open. Been there mid January, 3 of the previous 5 years and it was fantastic. The whole of Europe has had such a mild start to the winter and many places including Soll it has been to warm to fire up the snow cannons. The temp is dropping and as Tecnamflyer has pointed out the cannons are are now on.
Make sure you get into the Salvenstadel Bar in Soll for Apres. You won't regret it. |

Make sure you take in some after ski Apres at the Salvenstadl bar. Some times referred to as the 'cross roads bar'. Although now there is an underpass, you cant miss it as its at the bottom of the gondola road to the main part of Soll. Great atmosphere, good live music, look out for 'Frog on the Tyne' they usually arrive that week. I'm sure the Glen the DJ will still be there.

Can't speak for Niederau but Soll would be a good choice, great skiing area and the Apres is superb.

The majority of the lower Austrian resorts do not open till the 2nd week in December unless they get a very early fall. Because of that the touring companies will not have booking for then so the resorts will be very quiet.

I hope so, ski in Austria every year but not been back to Kitz since 1984 and returning in January with a dozen 'mature' skiers who really should act their age. Met a load of Aussies back then there and the trip was better for it.
