I am looking into returning to austria (lech in particular) this winter for 1 week skiing. we went to zell am zee/kaprun last year. loved it but felt the trekking between buses etc a bit hard work.
Looking for reds & blues mostly.
Essential to have easy access to lifts from hotel.
Nothing too exclusive/expensive.

Can anyone advise?

Scarletgirl..... Are there hotels with instant access to ski lifts & if so Would you recommend any? We want to reduce the time waiting for buses & journey time on them in this holiday

Look at the Hotel Sportiv in Obergurgl. The ski hire is in the hotel, Gondela is 5 metres from the ski room. Swimming Pools.

stayed there 2 seasons ago...excellent hotel for location and everything else about the place and got a bargain deal. It is part of the Crystal sportiv which is 5* an you share the wellness area..i also learnt about ski hire price in austria. Scheiber sports are in this hotel and the best hire skis are 50% more than in france. having said that i absolutely loved the rossi world cup sl skis i had..

Hi Derekjohn. Didn't read your post properly last night (a drop too much red wine I think!!!). Most accommodation is in the main village which is a bus ride away - though some energetic youngsters do walk! There is also the Bergland Hotel on the edge of the beginners slopes & only a few minutes walk to the gondola (or the bus stops right outside making it just a minute away). We met a couple who were staying there last year who recommended it. Easy to ski back down as long as conditions are good - a blue track or a narrow red.

Stay in Zurs, best part of the ski area, not crowded and good access onto all slopes. Only a 15 min bus ride and you're over in St Anton too.
All reds and blues, some fabulous skiing to be done, and go have the morning at Stuben as well if you go.
