Agree with Scarletgirl Soll was great we stayed in middle of town. Yes we used to bus it up to the lift which was only 5 minutes, some used to walk. But most of us used to have a stretch off and walk down the hill for our Apres after skiing. We were a mature group of 10+ 42-55 yrs. Went 3 years on the trot so it must have had something going for it. We are trying Saalbach this winter, have you been there Scarletgirl?

Wickers.. You can't judge a whole nation on a hotel run by a British tour operator!!!!
St Anton was busy, but far from over crowded. I guess a lot of people aren't used to seeing busy pistes which are most certainly not a feature only of Austria.
Never had a problem with any piste markings in st Anton myself, are you talking about the grading, which is notoriously under stated????
I guess it is all a matter of taste, My preference is for Italian and French food which looks much more appertizing as when food arrives your eyes are used first and I did not find that with Austrian food, some of it looked like cat litter with an egg on top

We have been to saalbach/hinterglem region for the last 5 yrs. love it. Lei gang is also a great place to stay. Easy access to all of that region. You can ski/board all day and never have to catch a bus. The hokoneig trail is also well worth a visit. It's a 20 minute bus ride from leogang. If u do go to leogang there is a restaurant called the priesterig( not sure if that's spelled correctly, phonetically correct) it is fantastic. Well worth s trip. I am dragging myself away this year and trying tignes!! Hope I don't regret it as I love Austria. Hope this helps.

Completed one ski trip to Austria which was enjoyable mainly due to the company, down side average food, Miserable looking restaurant staff, over crowded pistes, unreliable piste markings.
Maybe it is unfair critisising Austria after only one visit but what I would say if you are looking for customer service St Anton is not your type of place.

Schladming - great skiing but prices reasonable. You can stay in Schladming and walk within a few minutes to ski lifts or stay up in Rohrmoos where it is ski in and out. All runs are blue and red and all very skiable.

Austria pistes crowded?? That must be why in my last 11 ski trips 10 of them have been to Austria at Schadming, Soll and Mayrhofen. Work it out for yourself. As for the food being poor I must be very very easily pleased.
