La Plagne / les Arcs is fine if a little soul less. Plenty of skiing (go for the full pass).
I went on a cheap deal to Arc 1600 just before Easter last year - the thaw set in big-time sbut that shouldn't be a problem at this time of year.

My wife wears her Donjoy brace over the supplied lycra tube (you can get neoprene ones to reduce the digging in) - she doesn't often wear a base layer under her salopettes but when she does it's over the brace - it reduces the chances of it sliding or rotating - they are designed to almost grasp the femoral condyle (don't worry about the anatomy) but too many layers would interfere with the brace sitting snugly where it needs to be.
Car Hire - cost of Snow Tires

If you are picking the car up in one of the Alpine airports the odds are that the car will have them on already & if you are a bit firm they may well back down (they are hardly going to take the car to the depot & dig out summer tyres & wheels) as it's their role to hire a car that's fit for purpose. They don't charge extra for summer tyres!

If you are arranging the hire at this end it may well be worth contacting the company to put a note on the rental voucher along the lines of "including winter tyres". Thay way it averts the winter tyre suppliment before they you have to argue at the airport.

Donjoy also make a couple of short ACL braces that are short enough to fit above a ski boot - most acl braces are too long to wear with a ski boot (The same applies to motorcross boots).
If you've done one ACL you are at greater risk than most of pinging the other - ACL injuries are probably the most common significant skiing knee injury - either from direct trauma of impact or simply hyperextending the knee (relatively common new skiers)
If you've had your ACL reconstructed the evidence suggests a functional brace reduces the risk of re-injury significantly & the apparent high cost of the brace outweighs the hassle of another reconstruction.
Good, functional knee braces are expensive, however cheap ones tend to be uncomfortable and useless.
