I have to admit, not my thing either, and we usually stick to sarnies at lunchtime, but I think the sight of someone eating a burger made him cave in one day... :-)
Hubbie had a decent burger at the La Cabane place I mentioned, looked and tasted the business!

Lessons in Val d'isere?

I just had some private lessons in VDI with British Alpine Ski School - they operate in a number of reports, Val being one of them.

Can't praise them highly enough, I am a cautious intermediate and left feeling on top of the world.

If you Google them, and go to BASS Resorts, you can link through to the Val/Tignes specific page and there is an enquiry/contact button. I heard back from them on email really quickly.

Back from VDI 1 week ourselves, had a ball, wish I was still there...Hope everyone travelling this weekend gets where they need to be, when they need to be there :-)
Snow depth

Been as complete beginner, wouldn't go back.....found it to be very basic, small snow area for intermediate levels or above, hit and miss with quality of lessons and/or hire equipment....spend money elsewhere and find a cheap deal elsewhere I would say.
Just back and thought I would note a couple of places in case anyone searches on here with the same query.

We tended to meet in town as I was having some lessons and the OH was off doing his own thing.

La Cabane at the bottom of the nursery slopes was quite good, burger fries and a drink 11 Euros, pan inis 5 Euros, vin chaud 3.5 Euros.

There's a bakery in the Dolomite square, near the Grand Marnier Creperie, called Le Tartine. Baguettes were 5 Euros and were huge and very filling, pizza 3.5 Euros, bottles of soft drinks 3.5 Euros. They also did pastries, quiche, sausage rolls too if that takes your fancy.

As my lessons tended to finish slightly after the bulk of the ski schools, as I was having private tuition, we seemed to time these places just right and they weren't too busy.

You can get a public bus from Grenoble Gare Routiere via Altibus or VFD, we did this a few years ago. Took about 4 hours or so all told from Geneva to resort, but as it was some time ago, not sure of bus times - try googling both the above.
