Polar Bear bar on the main street is really quite good, it has a fire hanging in the middle of the bar, quite random...Also, Smokey Joes, they have live pares music every evening, or at least they have dene on our previous 3 visits but been elsewhere this year. Secret Bar (opposite the Polar Bear) was good last year too. Red Frog over at the Venosc side of town was another favourite of ours too.
Hints for skiing - put skis on, throw yourself down mountain - only joking, depends what you're after? If you can expand on this, let me know and I'll try to help. However, some of my favourite runs (blues) are Signal 1, Glacier 1, La Fee 1 and Lac Noir 1 and 2 - the pistes are names according to their area, and you'll find, as above, there are Signal 1, 2, 3 and 4 for example. The "other" side of the resort should be open as I believe the snow is good. It's a bit lower and faces into the sun so can suffer early and late season. Runs are known for being a bit steeper, which I can vouch for, but it is quieter I found. Not many runs back into resort, couple of blacks and a new red now. There's a green "roadway" that is narrow and murder on the thighs as you'll end up ploughing a lot of it to avoid the beginners that litter it. Best to get the Jandri gondola back down or the "white eggs" if you're in the middle of twon. There are chairlifts if you are staying at either end of resort that you can download in. Give me a shout if you've any more questions, hopefully I can answer them!! |

Ditto Ally G, I have the Atomic Hawx 90 women's boot, very scrawny ankles and narrow feet. I think the statement that Atomic boots are wider could be a bit misleading!

After our third journey through Grenoble in a row, and with it getting steadily worse each time, we have introduced a new criteria to our ski holiday searches - no flights through Grenoble!!
Coming back the other week, we were queuing in gates 11 to 14, or something like that. If you've flown through there, you'll know that the gates are in an L shape - so 11 to 14 were close to the "bend" of the L. Result - chaos!! All the queues were intermingled, seemed like every tour operator had flights going back to Manchester so when you asked "Are you in the Manchester queue" it could have been Monarch (us), Thomas Cook or Thomson!! Security was bedlam, we were still waiting to get through at the time our flight was supposed to be boarding, along with quite a few people on our flight. They hadn't given us the hurry up call, so we carried on and got through when we got through. Flight left 45 minutes late along with a number of others, and no doubt it was simply down to the congestion within the airport as the weather was fine and I had checked the incoming flight departure from Manchester as we were transferring to the airport to see if it was on time, which it essentially was. |

I agree that when you're on holiday, you like to relax a bit and I try not to get hung up on what stuff costs but on the same hand, I prefer to have a budget in mind for the week that I'd like to keep to if at all possible. It's finding that balance between throwing money around and finding a bargain or two. Hnce happy hours at 2 for 1 always welcome!!
Yes, France is expensive generally speaking, but I don't go to a French ski resort expecting to pay 2 Euros a beer...if you do, you've not done your research properly!! Prices are what they are, and if they're an issue, you have to keep within your means, whether that be a cheaper resort or beers on the balcony. |
