best location for skiing in march
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 11 Replies
We have skiied Les Deux Alpes for the last 2 years running going 5th/6th March. Whilst the snow on the nursery slopes was poor last year, as soon as you got up to where the bulk of the slopes are, it was great. Lots of blue runs if your OH is nervous at first, nice wide slopes, and as it's an "upside-down" resort, these are all high up and so the snow wasn't an issue.

Whilst we found it quite busy, it's nothing compared to Borovets - been there too!! No queuing for 45 minutes for the gondola, I can assure you.

Best tan I've ever seen was some young bloke who had a great goggle tan combined with a helmet tan - just a small square of his face around his noce and mouth that had any colour - priceless!!

Some Bolle ones, from S'n'R, not expensive as I'll only lose them/sit on them/fall on them - they do the job!!

Also have sunnies for lounging at lunchtime of the weather's nice, bought them in Boots a few years ago, some random make, but they're sports sunnies so keep the glare out really well.

We were in LdA last year in early March, and some of the other guests in our chalet went to AdH for the day, and whilst some of the lower slopes were disappointing, the rest were great, by all accounts.
Budget SKI resort - help

Lots of high slopes on the glacier in L2A, so if the snow doesn't make a quick appearance you should still have enough to keep you occupied. Prices are quite reasonable in resort, when compared to other French resorts, you can certainly eat cheaply enough with plenty of pizza, pasta, texmex available. 2 or 3 decent size supermarkets too if you're self catering.
LES DEUX - Prices

Have hired skis on their own previously via Skiset and am sure it was only about £65 for the week - boots shouldn't that expensive so bet you can beat that.

We're with Neilson again this year, and some dates, they're offering 2 for 1 lift passes, if that's any use to you. Think Crystal are also doing something similar, although it was about 3 or 4 weeks ago when we booked and I noticed this.

We've done public transport from Geneva to LDA a couple of years ago as we had won flights to Geneva and wanted to join some friends in LDA. Took a couple of hours to Grenoble, then maybe 90 minutes to LDA, might be slightly longer. It was quite nice, to be honest, as it wasn't all motorway driving, we saw a few towns on the way.
