Obergurgl- I have heard it is expensive. But I have never had a cheap skiing hol anyway! The one thing I have learnt over the last couple of years is that anything is possible- it just might need a bit of tweaking! Good advice in all areas of life really. I know I can go skiing again. But I will chose my resort a bit more carefully. I will check out Obergurgl- so thanks!

Hi Rose! The only concern with Seefeld is the low altitude. But is this relevant? I also forgot to say that I find drag lifts- well a drag!! I fare much better on gondolas and chair lifts. I am not at all lazy- honestly!

In order to get fit, it has been recommended that I get a swiss exercise ball. Has anybody used the ball to get fit for skiing? Had a go on one and just staying on it was a bit of a challenge! And the various sizes confuses me even more! Any advice greatfully received along with suitable exercises! Thanks Sue

Ok, let me explain! It is common knowledge on here that I suffer from MS and there lies the conundrum! Last year I was very ill and could barely walk, never mind ski. It wasn't pretty! But I am now doing ok and am itching to go skiing again but need a slightly different holiday.
The last three years I have gone to Zell am See and now want a new expeience, but still in Austria. Basically I get very tired so need easy skiing! Lots of easy, wide runs that require very little effort for me to get to! The resort has to have things going on so I can still enjoy myself even if I don't do much skiing. Oh, and the hotel needs to be good too- for the same reasons! Not a big ask at all!! In the past I went to a resort which was so bad and an utter waste of money. This has made me a bit nervous of trying somewhere I don't know. Hoping you guys can help! Thanks! :D Sue |

Your story is shocking and I really am sorry to hear the chain of events. As far as I am aware the ski instrucor must be accountable- that is certainly why I pay for lessons. Just in case. The ski instructors I always have had in Austria always carry their mobiles in case of accidents such as yours. I have seen many people air lifted off the mountain or skidooed down and taken to hospital if the injury is less serious. A helicopter is always called if you bang your head. Personally I would contact the ski school and name and shame the instructor in question - surely lessons must be learned. I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery

Freezywater- I was also there in 2006 and the snow was great. We arrived late at night and it was foggy when we woke up and started skiing. Then the fog lifted and we saw the Wilder Kaiser for the first time. It was just magic and I was smitten! The poor instructor who had the pleasure of teaching me was Seppe (Austrian) who was brill and my boys had Tracy (English) who was also very good. Perfect week and set my finances up for the future very nicely!

I went to Kirchdorf and it is in fact the place where I learnt to ski. It is very small but highly recommended for learning to ski. I found it hard in that there were only three drag lifts so I never got a chance to rest on the chairlift. But I loved it and the Alphof did a great pancake for lunch!
I do know that the year of really little snow did effect the resort but all that happened was that you got the ski bus to the higher resorts. So don't panic! The ski pass covers you for other resorts. I went to St Johann and Steinplatte and both of these were very easy to got to on the ski bus. Kirchdorf was my first ever ski hol and will always hold a special place in my heart! Aaaaaaahhhh! |

If it is possible for me it is definitely do-able for an out of practice intermediate! Sticking together is probably a good idea, but this year I did ski school whereas my husband and daughter went off by themselves. We could keep in contact by text/phone really easily if we needed to or if there was any problem. You can get the skibus from city express if you wanted to get the lift with your friends at the bottom of the Schmittenhoe. Decisions decisions!
