Apparently it records your distance only when you go through a scanner at a lift station, so it doesn't record your last run down the mountain. On the day I skiied the most miles ever, I couldn't get the lift as usual down as it was shut due to the winds and had to ski all the way down. But it didn't recognise this- I was a bit unhappy! When you think about it, some of the lifts stop a couple of times up the mountain, but you couldn't be sure if I skiied from the top or from the middle. Sorry! |

I have used skiline in Austria and loved it. In fact my ski instructor didn't know about it either and was quite enthralled with our daily distance that we skiied! You key in your lift pass number and it comes out with the distance you skiied and all the lifts you used. My only criticism was that it didn't record your last run down the mountain as you obviously didn't use your lift pass at the bottom. But all in all, good fun!

I think the key here is confidence. If your daughter practices her technique on easy slopes, she will then be more confident when things get a bit more tricky. I like the idea of private lessons as they can be catered just for her, whereas group lessons are not. I know a lot of confidence is between the ears. The best skiing I ever did was when the weather was so bad I couldn't see just how steep the slope was and just had to concentrate on the next turn. Normally I think I won't complete the turn and will fall over. I can't and I do!
I wouldn't worry too much on the colour of the piste- it is afterall someone else's opinion. |

I am definitely with you on this one! It has totally put me off going to a new resort as I don't trust the grading system until I have done the route personally. As at the moment I have to do easy runs, we are going back to the same resort.
Saying that I have done a hideous red which (like your daughter) I took my skis off and slid down on my backside. I had damaged my hamstrings which put pay to that ski hol! Not cool! But I have also done a black which was ok and much easier than the red. I think a lot has to do with the snow- I hate to say that some snow conditions are easier than others! Also narrow treelined blues, can be very icy and difficult. But they are rated blue. Very interested to see what other people say! |

Other highlights of my stay were the sight of condoms left to dry on balconies, and piles of human excrement and vomit outside the doors to apartment blocks. Quote from Bandit>
This sounds like a typical Geordie night out! Recently I saw so much vomit int the town, but diarrhoa cascading down the steps really turned my stomach. I must be getting old! On the plus side the pistes in Austria have always been clean and very rarely do I see any dogs on them. I totally agree that the dogs should not be allowed up there from both a hygiene and safety point of view. It would put me off any resort if dogs were a problem. |

I got one a few weeks ago from Aldi so I am not sure if they still have any. Mine cost £20 and they do a kids one which is cheaper. I love it!
