Helmet Query !
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 26 Replies
I second Allie's point, try and put them in your hold luggage. I travelled recently with two helmets and they both went in separate suitcases with no problem. In fact, it made sense to me as anything which could be damaged/broken was put in the helmets first. I did think of the baggage handlers, but as my husband pointed out, helmets are meant to be sturdy enough to protect your head! Seriously, If you need to, think of getting bigger suitcases/whatever you use. You can do without worrying if all your gear will fit in.

If your instructor is right & I also enjoy myself will that put salt on the wound, nah I wouldn't do that to you.

Yeah but the instructor was laughing and his nose was growing. Weird! Seriously all the slopes at Zell have snow cannons so you won't have a problem. I have skiied in deep snow and found it tough going, you don't need a lot of snow for it to be good! p.s. can I come in your suitcase?

Just rub it in that we've been and you have not why don't you! March 5th? My ski instructor told me that snow was coming at the end Of February so finger's crossed. Can't wait to hear if you like it there!

For you Brooksy! Go to schmitten.at and go to live panaroma where the live webcam changes view every 30 seconds or so. I like it as it shows all the right up to date info, and just how busy the slopes are. I also like skiline. You can key in your life pass number when you are back and it gives all your vertical miles, lifts, times etc you could ever need! Doesn't tell you how rubbish you are though!

Zell Belle wrote:Hi Sue.
Only been twice to Zell am See. The first time was two years ago for New Year and we had a great time and I fell in love with the place. I know about the Schmitten webcam (watch it most days)and do you know Crazy Daisy also has a live webcam. I was spotted by someone at home who knew we were there ordering a drink from the bar - scary

I fell in love with Zell am See too, have been 4 times now. I know where the live streaming is on the slopes and almost texted my son at home to have a look as I would be on! Mind you I can ski ok, until someone watches me and I just know I would have been on my backside! We had pizza at Crazy Daisys so I don't know if the webcam is in the restaurant too. On our last day we stood at Schnapps Hans, overlooking Kaprun- I could have just stayed there forever. Gorgeous! And now I am back looking at concrete again- just doesn't seem right really!

Hi Zelle Belle! The photos are brilliant and bring it all back. The snowy ones look amazing as we had spring weather and blue skies all week! The last two years I had skiied in Zell had been very snowy all week and I must admit this year was much easier. There are times when the chair lifts have stopped in blizzards and I thought I was going to die of hypothermia! How many times have you visited Zell? I have been 4 times and every holiday is very different. This year was so good waiting another year to go back is not good! Schmitten.at now has live streaming of the slopes- too much time on my hands I think! Forgot, the Pinzgauer Hutte is the one where you hang on to the rope for dear life and the skidoo pulls you back up. I thought the driver would take it easy but no, I think he got muddled with the pedals! All I could think of was if I fall it will hurt a lot! Well worth it though, the restaurant was quiet, it was a sun trap and the views were out of this world. Well worth a visit!

I have just returned from a week in Zell so can give the latest info for you. It was brilliant! It was so warm and a very different holiday to the ones I have had there before. For the first time ever I didn't book into 4 hours each day of skischule. This meant I could be on the slopes at 9.00am when the conditions were perfect and the slopes were almost deserted. We went for lunch at 11.00am when the restaurants were still quiet. By 1.00pm the slopes were busy and the snow a bit slushy so we stopped skiing and started apres ski! I did have a couple of private lessons at 9.00am which suited me perfectly and my skiing did improve. The instructor did say the weather was getting much colder and snow was coming so I am sure that will be no problem. The Lebzelter hotel is bang in the centre, but the bus system there is fantastic so there is no problem with skiing or apres ski. Go to Pinzgauer Hutte as the views are stunning but beware the skidoo on your return! Scary stuff! You will love Zell and I am very jealous!

Family first ski Holiday

I went skiing the first time ever to Kirchdorf in Austria with my husband and three kids aged 15,13 & 8. We all did ski school and I was with my husband and the kids were all in separate groups. As it is a small mountain, we all met up for lunch which really helped. And most of the time I could see my youngest child anyway.

For a beginner's ski hol I can't recommend Kirchdorf enough. On the downside, it is a relatively low resort.

Since then, we have gone to Zell am See which is much larger. They like to split the adults and kids into different ski groups which I am very happy with as the kids have got older. Kids tend to progress much quicker than adults. This year none of us are doing ski school and will be able to ski as a family but I am grateful that I sent them to ski school. They are just much better skiers than my husband and I! Enjoy whatever you decide. Sue

Just thought of something! Why don't you put your two kids together in ski school? The 9 year old may just surprise you. And the adults can then go off and not worry.
