Average snow depths (over the last 16 years) for that time of year are:

High-145cm
Low-43cm

Looks ok to me! :D

Watching the weather forecast for Kirchdorf with increased worry

Its been raining and quite warm past few days yet the snowbase remains the same according to all the reports. is this a miracle 125cm for the upper slopes 60 lower - although it did snow last night.

Recall being in Slovakia a few years ago, there was snow piled 8ft high in places and the snowbase was 75 cms, then the snow turned to rain and it was all gone within 2 days

What made you choose another tiny resort?

I went to Kirchdorf and it is in fact the place where I learnt to ski. It is very small but highly recommended for learning to ski. I found it hard in that there were only three drag lifts so I never got a chance to rest on the chairlift. But I loved it and the Alphof did a great pancake for lunch!

I do know that the year of really little snow did effect the resort but all that happened was that you got the ski bus to the higher resorts. So don't panic! The ski pass covers you for other resorts. I went to St Johann and Steinplatte and both of these were very easy to got to on the ski bus. Kirchdorf was my first ever ski hol and will always hold a special place in my heart! Aaaaaaahhhh!

I'd hazard a guess it's got something to do with the packages the tour ops offer, that said we went 2006 and 2007, 2006 and was perfect, heaps of snow and wall to wall sunshine the whole week, 2007 was awful and only the nursery slope was open and even towards the end of the week the snow had almost gone but as sued said, you jump on the bus and either go to st Johann or Fieberbrunn or Steinplatte which are much higher. Kirchdorf itself is very pretty and very very freindly. The ski school is excellent, they have a good mix of local instructors as well as english instructors. Raymond (follow me!) and Ernie (no worries!) are both brilliant instructors and you'll do well with either.
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!
