Well, last year the elders of the village were right about the snow, then this year they say that it will be a very cold winter, i'll try to know a bit more about the precipitations, because cold doesn't mean snow.

ideas for skiing with children

Hi Wil,

I know it won't be a big help, but try to find a big resort, they propose lots of childcare services for the whole day or just morning and afternoon, with a bit of ski initiation and snow games.

Also most of "family friendly" resorts propose other activities for both kids and parents (ice skating, sledging, fireworks, shows...), mostly at xmas and half term.
Go on your favorite search engine and type "french family friendly ski resorts" and you'll find some good advices. Also you can check on any ski resort website what they propose.

Hope that helps !
Hi Annieh,

You sure will have good snow in les Arcs, it's really hight, shouldn't have any worries.

There is plenty of bars, I think you'll have a good time trying them !

There are 2 I like, one it's an english bar with lots of seasonnaires it's the Red hot Saloon. Can be a bit too young sometimes and there is a pool table.
The other one is the jungle cafe, always had a good laught over there, very friendly staff and good ambiance. Nice for late evenings as well with a great kebab shop next door for very late and drunk nights !

Enjoy !
I don't know, some friends who live over in Tignes le Lac told us that it has been the best summer snow on the glacier since 10 years, but didn't see myself.

I think I'll stick to my weather policy "Wait and see.... and keep praying !"

Cheers
Right now the ground's hardly cold enough for the snow to consolidate and it'll be another month or so before that starts to happen. There's a little cold air around right now but next week the temperatures should be back up in the 20's again. Some long range forecasts and models seem to be suggesting a better season than last year but the snow on the ground right now I'm afraid means nothing at all, sorry!

In the meantime they'll be some nice days on the glaciers of course.

I agree it doesn't mean anything for the next months, but what I can tell you it's that the ground is cold enough from this summer !
I've been in Tignes this morning and it was 2C and snowing at 1550 m, so even if it's warmer later on, it's still pretty chilly at this altitude.

And the glaciers have been covered by snow in summer too, so definitely some good skiing coming !... at least on the top....
Well it's been snowing at 1600 m today and 1800 m yesterday in Tignes, les Arcs, La plagne (I can't see further from my window !)... and probably around !

Hi Kenzie,

Sorry, I really can't let you say that. When did you go in May ?
I've been working there the last 5 years and was in Les arcs last year, and still the snow was better in les Brevieres.

Two years ago it was an amazing snow with 2 metres on the roof, couldn't clean the terrace, too much snow, so hubby and I decided to go in Val and Tignes for a good day of fresh powder.
Some pistes were amazing and some had been blown away by the wind, but not in Brev because there is never as much wind.

Obviously it's the lowest resort (1550 m) so end of april or when it's really warm it's not so good but most of the time it is.

I can't say last year was the best because it wasn't everywhere around the Alps, other than that i'm maybe not impartial cause I really love the spirit and the ambiance of this little village.
But you can not say the years before were bad.

I hope if you have the opportunity to go in Espace Killy again you'll give it an other try and like it !
