What are you talking about JO ?????
What about your signature "A bad day on the slopes is better than a good day in the office !" And it's not so bad, and the blue sky is amazing .... don't mistaken i'm crying for snow but as all sports weather dependant there is not much we can do except wait and enjoy xmas ! Merry xmas everybody !! |

Yes.... no, I don't think so ! But anyway isn't better than a day in the office with british rain ??? I think it is !
We have massive frost hollow here, it's beautifull....but not usefull ! As mikedib87 suggests some foenh (south wind in the Alps) I hope not cause we need the low pressure to move from the west and not the south. For the moment the pressure is so high 1046 mbr and brings from siberia dry and cold air...... |

Hi !
IF the high pressure does move, the earliest snow will be on wednesday. But it seems to be an unusual big high pressure just sit there and keeps away any snow we could have from the west. However the snow canons are working very well cause it's really cold, and everybody agrees to say that conditions are good on the slopes and all the main resorts are open enough for great fun ! Enjoy ! |

Don't panic, it's cold and the snow canons work full time, so you'll have snow in any high resort (above 1500 m).
But to be honest i can't see any snow for xmas day, but maybe after. There is a french saying "Noel au balcon, Paques aux tisons".....which means "Xmas on the balcony, easter in front of the chimney !! So it will be a late season. March and April should be great ! |

My husband is crazy about genepy, and you can find some everywhere in Savoie (Tignes, Val d'isere, Les Arcs, courchevel...)but not Haute-savoie.
I made couple of litres one year, delicious... it's not really legal but local authorities have some tolerance if it's for your own consommation !!! And it was !!! |

Hi Jo !
It's good to hear some optimism ! We had guests last week who had a great time too. There is no need of metres of snow to have a great fun. And the one we had was quality ! Plus a great blue sky and cold... isn't better than fog and rain showers anyway ? Just a word about everything you can hear or read in newspaper in UK, don't take it for granted when it's about weather. Last year we had one of the best snow in decades (150 cm in 24 hours), pure powder ... and all we heard about was avalanches and how risky it is so much snow and bla bla bla. So, not enough snow is not good, and apparently too much is dangerous ! Just trust people who live there or people back from their holidays.... THEY know ! And you don't ski at 1200m ? So no panic there will be some snow and snow canon and still lots of fun, beers and genepy ! What more can you possibly ask for holidays ? Have fun and merry xmas ! |

Tignes is pretty good, just had some guest for 4 days and they had great fun on and off piste.
Looks like more snow for the week end !! Have fun ! |

I agree with you Snowcheeks, we can't always choose, and as far as i can remember working in ski resort, xmas snow is always good, because falls just couple of days before, so it's fresh and not spoiled yet by all the crowd you can find later on in the season.
The xmas ambiance you can find during your ski holidays is great, maybe cliche, but really beautifull and unique. Enjoy your snowy xmas ! |
