Never going skiing in .....
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 11 Replies
December - too early, snow too unreliable
January - too cold and miserable and very short days
February - oh no way, school holidays
March - getting warm, snow going fast. Ice and slush only
April - sunny days, green pastures, runs closed .......
Just a follow on from never skiing in March and April topic
12 sleeps to go
Tignes in early May

12 days to go
Time to dust off the gear and start packing.
Colder weather forecast for Tignes and even some snow - which won't leave amazing skiing but will freshen things up and allow the pisteurs to work their magic to keep links and some runs open.
Age, experience, skill ....
None of these stop the daftness of playing around on the white stuff.

Have a look at the snow reports here - http://www.tignesnet.com/whatsnew.php
and the webcams here http://www.valdisere.com/gb/pictoflash/webcam/webcam.php
and very important the piste map that shows what's open - http://www.tignes.net/en/skiing-in-tignes/interactive-ski-run-map-28.html
You can see that quite a number of runs are already closed for the season, but I am sure there will be goos skiable stuff around for you.
I am off to Tignes Easter Sunday and have no real worries about nothing to ski on. It will be spring skiing and a more limited number of runs but still good stuff.

Point well made Cem - it is so much easier to look for a technical solution, ie: adjust or buy new boots, than work holistically on all the elements that make up an enjoyable and pain free days skiing.
My biggest break through came after about 6 years of holiday skiing after leaving the Alps (lived and worked there for years) when my old, stiff, boots really were hurting and my old, tough, fast, style of skiing was no longer viable.
New softer boots (Technica - still a lovely fit)and a lesson to get my head around a more relaxed skiing style set me up for many years enjoyable ski holidays.
And any pain I get now is self inflicted - trying to outdo a fit 16yo for example!

I had a look at some webcams a couple of days ago - looked very green and beautiful!
Not much snow to be seen.
Skiing without chair lifts?

Hang on - in Courchevel 6 of the 8 gondolas are accessible with blues and easy reds - this links into Meribel valley where a further 4 gondolas link in and even over to Val Thorens valley with an accessible 6 or 7 more.
Using purely gondolas and blues and easier reds you can ski from Courchevel 1330 right over to the top of the Cime De Carron at 3200m and into the next valley - and GET BACK on blues and not difficult red.
It would be a real challenge to the legs to complete this in a day!
So - that is at least 16 gondolas plus two or three cable cars all linked and accessible without a chair lift.
Le plus grande domain skiable du monde.
