That would challenge your balance in a storm :P

Have a look at Courchevel and the Three valleys - virtually the whole domain is accessible by gondola (except C 1650).
How do cablecars go down?
Thanks Dan,
It has been a poor season snow wise, which is a real disapointment both for holidaymakers and local commerce. A ludicrously late Easter has added to the difficulties this year - one of the main holiday periods being so late puts real pressure on resorts to stay open when they would have normally closed 2 or more weeks earlier.
The people I feel sorry for ar the not too savvy tourist who believe the "late offer" and think that there will be lovely snow just because bookings are being accepted.
In many years this would be the last real weekend of the season, not trying to suggest it is still winter for another 3 or 4 weeks.

Well - in my view you need something pretty snow sure, irespective of how well/badly next season starts; so somewhere pretty high.
Also with your children I would look at a big British run catered chalet hotel (i.e. big - 50/60/70 guests) because they will find other kids of similar age to hang out with, rather than a hotel or self catering.

Nothing yet for so far away but I am watching things very closely.
http://www.tignes.net/fr/ski-a-tignes/webcams-290.html for the webcams.
http://www.tignesnet.com/images-and-videos/tignes-video-snow-reports.htm#a8817 for video snow reports - updated late on Thursdays
and ...
http://www.tignes.net/en/skiing-in-tignes/interactive-ski-run-map-28.html for the piste map which shows what is open. This one will give you a good idea how the snow is going as runs start to close and snow disapears.
I use www.snow-forecast.com for the actual weather, and the freezing level is really important. Not good at the moment with a week of very warm weather forecast, but no precipitation, which means no rain!!

This area has always been susceptible but the locals keep it very quiet.
You can see the results of an earlier disruption on the road up from Bourg to 1600/1800 where the whole mountain slipped down.
The Grande Motte last slipped as far as I know in the '80's, trees have grown over the debris and hidden the damage now so it is hard to spot.
