I haven't done more than pass by VT for a good few years but do a search on here.
There have been a number of threads about skiing and night life, eating etc. for VT and other 3V resorts to help. |

Skiing where you are supposed to ski will be absolutely fine.
Avalanche danger is in odd and unusual places - don't forget that those places with a danger of a slide hitting a piste will have been dealt with and the off piste danger is no more or less than any other time, just different, and you said you weren't into off piste anyway. My stories about avalanches were just about the majesty of a slide not any specific danger. Sorry if I worried you needlessly. emjoy !! 8) |

Avalanches !! Absolutely.
An end of season pleasure is sitting in the sunshine, with a beer, in the afternoon, watching the avalanches. South facing slopes in particular regularly slide in the afternoon. I used to work in Les Arcs and watch the opposite side of the valley and some great avalanches. |

I would expect you to have at least some good skiing above Val Thorens.
How much of the valley is skiable is just luck this late in the season. It can change so much in a day or two. You could have fresh snow higher up and rain lower down or just day after day of sunshine. I am sure you will be able to ski all day - if on a reduced number of runs to mid season. Enjoy !! |

You should carry two hip flasks, one on each side, so not to get unbalanced  |

The crevasses on the GM glacier serve a very useful purpose as a genetic filter !!
It is only total idiots, or real novices, who go off-piste up there. Mind you it can be quite disconcerting going up a drag lift and finding they have thrown a couple of planks across a crevasse - and you can see down 20/30/40 feet into the blue ice. Very majestic, but very worrying - :P However good/bad/wet/icy/non-existant the skiable stuff is we shall enjoy - special hols, going with sister and niece, haven't skied with them since 2004. Been skiing with my niece since she was 7, now she is 24 and too big to pick up and carry when she gets in trouble. And I have warned her she can cary her own; jacket, spares, water, sun screen, money etc. this time. |
