Morzine Snow
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 4 Replies
Mys sister has just returned from La Clusaz and so has been skiing Morzine with loads of new snow and great conditions.
Just watch the forecast - freeze/thaw level is important late in the season to indicate how slushy lower runs will be.
Best Spring Skiing near Swiss Alps? French Alps?

With what you are saying about your uncle and your wishes/ability I would consider Tignes for an late season ski trip. Easy to get to from Paris on the TGV to Bourg St Maurice and then a bus.
I would look at Val Claret for suitable accommodation.
Far more available piste skiing and still great off-piste if the conditions allow.
Doesn't tick the pretty/scenic box as well but still majestic and views across the white dessert of the mountains.
It is officially Webcam Watching Time :)
Insoles....

I don't think this is such a bad idea. I use Sorbothane Shock Doctor insoles in lots of things including ski boots (fairly normal feet custom insoles not needed).
Anything that may improve comfort and fit has got to be a good idea.
LES 3 VALLÉES - where to go
Started by User in France, 14 Replies
The higher resorts command a premium on price but make getting up high early much easier.
I would go for Meribel Mottaret as a first choice if you find suitable accommodation.
Easier access to the higher slopes in the Meribel Valley, Mont Vallon for example.
Quicker links to the top of the Val Thorens Valley and for the Creux Noire and Chanrossa areas in the Courchevel valley as well as only one lift to the famous Courchevel couloirs
You are going at what should be a great time, after the main school holidays.
This is a bit old but useful background - I believe the author has died.

Big Snow Heading to The Alps

Started watching the weather more frequently now.
Cold is what is needed at the moment not just snow. Freeze the ground so the snow sticks and snow cannons can work their magic where needed.
Best resorts
Started by Ruby1 in Beginning Skiing, 4 Replies, discussing Risoul and Wagrain
Huge question Ruby - which continent? Assuming Europe any country preference??
Maybe you speak French, German, Italian??? Could be easier if you can get by with the language, although you will find instruction in English in pretty much all resorts.
In my experience, however, the beginners/easy areas in Alpes D'Huez are second to none. Snow sure and by the resort, huge (so less problem with too many people all crammed together) and with good lifts.
AllyG is fine and dandy and as mad as ever.
We are skiing as a group in Madonna di Campiglio. 20-something of us this year.
