Skiing at Christmas
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 21 Replies
Hi Salski

I believe it is quieter at Christmas than New Year - we have been just after Christmas overlapping both weeks and the Christmas week was quieter than New Year. We are going Christmas Week this year but Friday to Thurs and going back home on Christmas Eve - five and half days skiing and I get to do Christmas Dinner as usual  - won't know what to do with myself over New Year though - will be the first time not skied that week in a while - I guess Chill Factore and the Wii will have to do!

Hi Ross

I am a great big fan of St Martin - I will be visiting three times this winter. Le Villard is about 1.5 km away from St Martin and as far as I know does not have any bars. The chalet does look lovely (I have seen it advertised on the Facebook group) and if you like peace, quiet and tranquility will be great. St Martin whilst only having a few bars they are generally quite lively in high season. We prefer to stop in the village so that they are in walking distance. I don't know what l'Orcieres charges but this apartment looks great to me and overlooks the gondola

Google Agence des Alpes, Agence des Bellevilles, Three Valleys Immobilier as they all have online booking and lots of self catering accommadation between them. I have a rough idea where most of it is so give me a shout if you need any more info!

The skiing is great - direct access to the huge 3V. We go over to Val Thorens a lot at Easter. The run down to St Martin was fine last Easter - better than at Les Menuires higher up. The village is also sunny and warm for late afternoon sunbathing after the slopes! I will be staying in a small but perfectly formed and comfortable apartment next to the Gondola so if you book Le Cochet I will expect an invite to watch the 40 inch Samsung with full SKY!!!

Hemel looks similar to Chill Factore, The place in Holland looks worth a try - we are only two hours from Hull! Wickers the 46 Euros includes Tea Coffee and a Barbeque - not bad really...

Just got a nudge on this one through my email. Bandit I am unfortunately no longer a lightweight (as you can see from my avatar). When I say I go faster than most I mean my fellow middle aged, slightly overweight ski-ing friends. I can keep up with the kids at times but it is bloody hard work. Because of the tips the skis reach the bridge of my nose - I am 164cm like you - which is about right I believe so I hope I won't be classed as one who wears shorter skis to mask a shoddy technique. I probably have one but do not intentionally try and mask it  The blurb on my skis when I bought them recommend them for 60 groomed 40 off?
