We sometimes take the Rhodos lift from Meribel and the chair the Loze to go over the Col de La Loze rather than Saulire. Its a quicker way because there are less lines/queues we find. Skiing down to La Tania or Le Praz allows you to get the Dou des Lanches back up to the top for either a cruisy blue or (often closed) Black down into Meribel Villages. Be sure to do Mont Vallon - superb views and runs down.

Can I just say how brave I think you all are. My Dad had a stroke 18 months ago and the damage it can do both mentally and physically cannot be compared to any other sort of physical injury. My Dad did make a good recovery because he was determined - like you are - to get his life back to what it was. He is 80 and never skied so I can't offer any specific advice but he is back doing what he loves - Gardening - and thats not just pulling a few weeds out - he can dig for England! Whether you will be able to ski next January will depend on many factors and I would discuss it with your physiotherapist as soon as you can. I hope you have a speedy recovery and return to the ski slopes soon. |

Had a look this morning for the Easter Hols 9 - 24th April and Jet2 have some very nicely priced flights £6.99 out £0.99 back in. I am gutted as Mr PSC has no holidays left and a chronic bad back. I have some friends going out to VT the first week - should I be really cheeky and book a flight and accommodation to join them?
Or should I advertise myself on here as available to share a holiday with - requesting of course that only Female companions of a certain educational standard and a good ability to consume wine apply? Or should I do what I planned to do - take the car up to Scotland and tour each of the ski areas as I may be able to persuade my son on that one? Any other suggestions for a cheap third week??? |

I too am a Teacher and looked into this a few years ago. There are Chalets that you can rent(thats what most TO's do) so you could look down that avenue before selling up and buying. Natives is a good resource. What put me off was I really don't like cleaning very much and probably would rather teach 9 Set 4 than clean someone elses toilet!! The other issue is that whilst you get time off out of season when you watch the programmes not many get time to do much skiing which for me would defeat the object. Another of our J2 posters (also a Teacher) got a job for the season as a Nursery Manager. In the resort we visit there is another chap who just does B&B at a flat rate of £100 per night per room in his chalet and lets Guests use his kitchen/living facilities in the evening. That sounds like the sort of compromise I could live with. )

Snowrental will be Jean Sports not Twinner where you said they had the skis you wanted. We have use them in the past with no problems and saved up to 20%. PSC |

We have used them all and Twinner are good but really the best ones in the Village are Sport 1500 in the main Village drag on the way up to your accommadation - they are really helpful and very knowledgeable. Jean Sports you can get a discount with in advance through Snow Rental and save about 20% but they as a result go for volume and not necesarily quality- perhaps on balance go with Twinner as they are just next door to the Hotel and they have the skis you want....

We atayed in Chatel when in PDS which was ok but not much was ski in/out - Avoriaz is better for that I think although Morzine has much more Alpine charm. Ski Independent is a company that springs to mind that you could look up on the web. Transport can be arranged either through SNCF (rail) or local bus companies http://www.gva.ch/en/Portaldata/1/Resources/fichiers/publications/publications_informative/aeroski-bus.pdf. If skiing on piste the routes back to resort are usually very clearly marked however off piste excursions are not patrolled or avalanched controlled in France so you would need a Guide if you wanted to ski outside of the marked pistes.
