Splash out and have 2 weeks in Whistler - you know it makes sense!

Whistler is very good, but you can get some misty weather. One of my scariest runs ever was down the Blackcomb glacier, at full pitch, in a near white out. Cental Canada may be better value. Pablo will be along quite shortly.

Colorado is great, I would suggest Breckenridge as a base, from there you get to ski five other locations, including Vail, all on the same lift pass. If you can get a flight deal from London to Denver, it's a strong consideration. You will need a car hire, two and a half hours Denver to Breck.

In both cases, I suggest March, because January can be cold. Check out lift pass prices, they are expensive.

For travel value, look at East coast locations, there are some big resorts near Maine.

The US is suffering from the CC just now, and there are likely to be reductions in all spend areas. The £/$ is quite good. Condo prices are usually not too bad.

That just leaves January. There are sure to be last minute deals in Jan, and if you avoid France, reasonable day costs.

You are only young once, I keep telling myself.

I'd go with the two weeks in the states if it was me

I've done a fair few seasons in Breckenridge and you cant beat it, also means you can ski the likes of keystone, Vail and A Basin which has some of the highest and steepest skiing in Colarado

Wouldn't worry about car hire from denver, jump on the resort express which leaves straight from the airport and your in Breck in under two hours.

I would go in March myself as it can be pretty damm cold up until the end of Feb, also think about the altitude as the resorts are high compared to Europe with Breck village being at 9600 feet and the highest run in A basin is 13050 feet.

On the plus side though some of the best powder i've ever skied and the Lake Chutes are some of the best skiing i've ever done.

Cheers

Matt

Spot on Matt, Keystone for groomed slopes, Vail for everything, Arapahoe basin for steep & challenging. The powder quality is good.

Interesting info on the resort express, don't think that was operating, when I was there. How then, do you get to other resorts? Keystone is only 20min away, so may have a transfer bus, but Vail is an hours journey. It would come down to a cost/benefit decision. If there are 4 people, then big van hire may be better value.

You get 13 days skiing instead of 2 x 6 days.

Easy, winter trip to European delights, then spend a few months saving pennies and go to South America in Summer!

4-5 in the winter. Fly into Eagle county if you can. If you can't try to get in the after noon so you have the evening to drive. if you do go to breck, swing by Sliverthorne and eat at the Mint.
