We managed to drive to the alps without a V5, change of light bulbs, hi-vis jackets, reflective triangles etc. We do have a fairly modern (hopefully reliable) car and European RAC cover. If I were you I wouldnt worry. But I'm sure someone will tell you that is not the correct approach.

Its not the correct approach, and had you been stopped by the nasty Gendarmes they would have issued you with several on the spot fines at least.

You defo should not go without your V5 as its the only way to prove the car is yours. I had to show mine at Dover once.

We've driven in Europe more times than I can count and never been stopped...which is lucky as, to my knowledge, we've never taken the log book before.
I might be wrong and if so I apologise to car docs organiser....but I am pretty sure we haven't.
We will of course make sure we have it on all future occasions!

Thanks for that info!

I didn't realise that either, a few years ago I was bored one summer and packed themotorbike up and went off to Assen in the Netherlands to watch the racing, I never even thought of RAC, Green Card or taking V5 etc, when i got home and realise what might of happened i cringed,

2nd trip to Assen I went in the car, sorted RAC, Insurance for the trip but again never thought of V5.

So i suppose next time I fancy a road trip i will remember everything. 3rd time lucky, just have to remember drive on wrong side

Thanks Guys.
age is but a number but why does it have to keep going up !!
