I just do not know how they manage to do this, other than there has always been a strong belief in price control in the area, and that Austria/Tirol/Wildschonau have really gone strongly in the direction if eco-grants.

I know this is not a corporate case, but is indicative of attitudes in Austria. My old head instructor has invested in, ~ half metre depth roof insulation, (I have done this also), ~ 8 hot water solar panels, (I intend to, next year, geo-thermalheat extraction, (I am investigating)

The difference between us is:

1.His costs of installation are less than half of mine
2. He gets 80% grant, I might get 5%.

Dave i think your missing the point, the real difference between the two of you is that your country is run by an egotistical donut in a suit and your old head instuctors isn't :!:

Isn't geo-thermal extraction the one where you have to dig up your garden and sinkpipes into the ground :?:

our bore hole is under the boiler, pretty unobtrusive and very, very cheap to run.

Should have said the 1.02% applied to the lift pass cost increase.

Two types of Geo-thermal.

Trench. Run a few hundred feet of pipe horizontally, about a metre underground. Constant temp, warmer than winter external temp. Needs further heating.

Borehole. Go to depths, 50m ~ 150m, temps can be 18deg to 20 deg. Can be used directly for underfloor heating or temperature-enhanced.

Uk installation costs are significantly higher than European. Euro grants are multiple times better. You have to be careful about geological substructure, I am led to believe we have sulphurous content ~ this can lead to corrosion issues. There are motor/pump maintenance cost issues.

Interested in your geo installation Ise. What depth bore are you at, what is the input/output temp difference, single or multple bore pipe, what size pump do you have, and how do you use the heat?

Do you get grants in Switzerland, your region, your district?

At the risk of being totally boring (geddit) and pulling the thread back onto topic, it looks like the Telegraph could be correct. I have the Inghams brochures EarlyBird and 1st Edition. Just looked at a couple of ball bark prices for hotels, and the prices were up £50-£67 for a week stay in the same period on the same package.

if you can afford to book with Inghams i'm sure an extra 70 quid won't make a dent
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

I dont find Inghams expensive I booked with them for January and saved £500 with the exact same holiday that I was going to book with our usual tour op.

Prices are higher than last season, no doubt. Holiday for hoiday they are definitely up, and they are also up from the earlybird brochures as pointed out. This is mainly to cover fuel costs for bus transfers and flights.
I cant comment on lift pass prices, but I am sure this will be covered soon when this seasons prices start to be announced. I expect these to go up around 5% roughly, although our biggest problem over in the UK is the Euro conversion rate, so prices will seem a fair bit higher.

As for value for money, I cant say for ALL the holidays they offer, but certainly the ones I have taken with Inghams have all been good value and much cheaper than the same holiday with another company. I generally find along with Inghams that Crystal and Neilson are as good value as anyone for the packages, although I have only once paid brochure price for a ski holiday, and even then I did it online and got a discount. All the major tour companies have a discounts and deals section online, and its well worth waiting to see what they throw onto these as the holiday dates approach, as all holidays never sell out, so there are bargains to be had, if you can be reasonably flexible of course.
